green leafy gael kinvara

I heard about the Kinvara brand through Rosanna Davidson. Not personally – this isn’t a name drop! But when I quizzed her on Instagram on whether she knew any good cruelty-free cosmetics brands in Ireland she responded (sound of her) and told me about Kinvara. So I’ve wanted to try this stuff since then. I held off as it was a little out of my price range at the time and I thought I could just get away with coconut oil as cleanser for ages. You get massive amounts of coconut oil for half the price of the Absolute Cleansing Oil so it was an economical decision for me, having only just ventured into professional life.

So, a couple of years later when they decided they wanted to send me some of their award-winning products, I jumped for joy! I feel the fairest and most honest way to do reviews is with a pros and cons list – so that’s what I’ve done.

I also filmed a first impressions video of me using the products for the first time, you can watch that here.

Kinvara Absolute Cleansing Oil is not like any other cleanser on the shelves of chemists, supermarkets and department stores.

I’ll break it down so you can understand this product:

Some notable ingredients:

  • Citrullus vulgaris ( Watermelon) seed oil –  good for oily skin
  • Carthamus tinctorius (Thistle) seed oil – helps to reduce the size of the pores
  • Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) leaf extract – has anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and skin toning properties
  • Citrus aurantium dulcis (Orange) peel oil – is excellent for skin toning
  • Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus) leaf oil – smalls fabulous and has antibacterial properties

How do I use it?

  • Mostly to take my make-up off. I don’t wear make-up too often – maybe once or twice  a week if I’m going out at night or making a video (my YouTube channel is here). What I do is: pump the cleansing oil into my hands and rub them together to heat the oil. Then I massage the oil into my face. This is such a pleasurable experience – it’s like being in a spa. The smell is just so beautiful. The oil dissolves my make-up quite easily. With regards to eye make-up, mascara can be stubborn so I just spend a few extra seconds rubbing my eye lashes in a circular motions and this dislodges any mascara from the eye lashes, plus eye shadow too. Then, once I feel my make up has been dislodged from my pores, I wipe it off with a steaming hot face cloth. This is pure bliss.
  • I’ve also started using it in the shower, not to take me make-up off, but just because it feels so good massaging it into my face while under a the hot steamy shower water – it’s like a mini-spa experience.

This product is WINNING because:

  • The ingredients list is short, with words that you can pronounce; you might even know what some of the ingredients are. Knowing what you’re putting in your skin is just as important as knowing what you’re putting in your mouth. Your skin is the body’s biggest organ and it absorbs, it absorbs like a sponge, and you don’t want to be absorbing harmful chemicals into your body through your skin. There’s no risk of this happening with Kinvara Absolute Cleansing Oil – it’s just so clean and natural!
  • The ingredients are all plant-based, that is, nothing was extracted from any part of any animal! No rendered animal fat in this skin cleanser! That’s a thumbs up from me.
  • There are no nasty chemicals or substances that were man-made in a lab from God-knows what. No EU report is going to come out in 5 years and say that one of these products is actually toxic and linked to cancer. That gives me good peace of mind.
  • It works. It takes me make-up of easily – even my mascara – and it’s actually quite a fun regime. Massaging your face with the oil is calming and smells amazing, then wiping it off with a hot cloth is very satisfying and leaves your face with a lovely clean and soft feel. You don’t feel like your skin has been stripped of anything – you just feel clean, and calm.
  • It smells heavenly. There is a winning combination of essential oils in this. I like to breathe deep when massaging it into my face – it’s so soothing!
  • It’s animal-friendly. Like I mentioned there are no derivatives of any animals, fish, or insects in this product. It’s pure plant goodness. They’re also cruelty-free, meaning they don’t test on animals. This should be the default for all cosmetic companies.

Kinvara absolute cleansing oil vegan and cruelty free review

This product is LOSING because:

  • It probably could come in a bigger bottle, but, I am just nitpicking so that I can write an interesting pros and cons list. If you wear make-up every single day then it probably wouldn’t take you long to go through it.
  • It’s in a plastic bottle unfortunately. I don’t know enough about packaging to know how they could avoid this but if it was at least recycled plastic that would be a start. I’m guessing using glass would make it more expensive. Again it’s a minor detail but for anyone trying to more sustainable and environmentally conscious it might be a turn-off.

Where can I get Kinvara Absolute Cleansing Oil and how much does it COST?

  • To see which Irish towns have shops that stock Kinvara click here.
  • If you’re not in Ireland click here.
  • According to the Kinvara website the price is €22.95. It’s definitely worth it if you base worth on how good a product is for your skin, and, how effective it is.

One very important point I need to make is that I have been doing this for years with coconut oil – thinking it was a perfectly safe way to remove my make up. But, since using Kinvara Absolute Cleansing Oil, I’ve realised that coconut oil stinks. It’s vile. Plus, it always leaves a greasy, oily film on my face – even after wiping it off with a cloth. Then I read something somewhere about coconut oil clogging pores and this could be purely coincidental but my skin has improved since using the Kinvara Cleansing Oil. I have much less white heads and black heads. I’ve cleaned up my diet recently too so it could be due to a combination of both – but I don’t feel in any way greasy after using the Kinvara stuff. In fact, it leaves me with a soft, clean feeling.

This product is definitely the best cleanser (that removes make up) that I’ve ever used.

I’ll be honest – I don’t know what this product does, I don’t know what it’s purpose is, or what function it has for the skin. But, I definitely have an opinion on it. Please read on…

Some notable ingredients:

Sea buckthorn – “…has an innate ability to revive skin cells, and the high content of vitamin E and C reduces the gravity and length of wrinkles while alleviating tough skin…” (Source).

Rosehip oil – “…is full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, all while reducing scars and fine lines.” (Source).

How do I use it?

  • After cleansing with the Absolute Cleansing Oil, and toning with rosewater, I squirt one pump of the 24 Hour Rosehip Serum onto the back of my (dry) hand and then use my fingers to apply it like a moisturiser to my face. It’s not as creamy as a typical moisturiser so you need to be careful to have your hand still and level when squirting it onto the back of your hand in case it runs off it.

This product is WINNING because:

  • I know I said I didn’t know what this product actually does, but, what I can tell you is my skin feels better after using it. I’ve been using it now for about a month, and I’ve noticed my skin looks brighter, smoother, and more radiant. Now, to be fully honest, there are other circumstances that could be a factor in this. The sun, my cleaned up diet, and me using the Absolute Cleansing Oil instead of coconut oil to remove my make-up, for instance. But still, I feel like the Rosehip Serum has had a significant role in my newfound skin confidence.
  • It smells like an Irish garden. This sounds strange, I know, but trust be it’s a beautiful smell. It’s heavy on the citrus and it’s invigorating – I do a lot of deep breathing when applying my Kinvara products because of the divine aromas of the essential oils used in their products.
  • Again, like all Kinvara products, the 24 Rosehip Serum does not contain any animal derivatives and has not been tested on animals. This is the most important factor for me when considering what to purchase.
  • Natural ingredients – this is probably the second most important factor. Knowing a product’s ingredients list is full of natural, plant-based oils and extracts gives me peace of mind that I’m not harming my skin or my body. It’s a bonus when the product actually works!
  • Unlike the cleanser – this is packaged in a glass bottle.

This product is LOSING because:

  • Again, I’m just nitpicking here. The bottle is very small and the price is quite large. This would lead you to believe that your not getting much for your money. But a little goes a long way with this product, Plus, it’s shocking how powerful it is. Technically, it is worth the money – but not everyone will be able to afford it, unfortunately.
  • It’s slightly runny. A couple of times at the start I would squirt one pump onto my hand and it would run down into my fingers and onto the floor. This was irritating as it’s such good quality I didn’t want to lose any of it! That being said though, I wouldn’t want them to sacrifice its status as a natural product by adding chemicals to change the consistency – I can live with having to keep my hand steady when using it!

Where can I get Kinvara 24 Hour Rosehip Serum and how much does it cost?

  • You can get it from the exact same links that I supplied above when discussing the Cleansing Oil, either on their site, or in certain shops around the country.
  • It costs €32.95 for a 30ml bottle. If you can afford it, get it. It’s fabulous. If not, save up.

I enjoy using this product because I love the smell of it so much. It leaves my face feeling conditioned and nourished – with literally no grease whatsoever. It’s not greasy or creamy like a moisturiser which is good because I get greasy skin quite easily. This just leaves me feeling like I injected my skin with a vitamin C supplement or something. And it must be effective because like I said, since I’ve started using it my skin just looks better. Obviously it could be a combination of factors but It’s gotten to the stage where I can put on mascara and fill in my brows and just put nothing on my face. So yes, I would definitely recommend this product, if you want to rejuvenate your skin.

When I first received these Kinvara products I filmed myself opening and using these products for the first time. This is just to show my initial reaction and first impressions. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel here.

  1. I contacted Kinvara a few months back as they used to have the cleansing oil in a glass bottle and then changed to plastic, which I was concerned about so I contacted them to ask why. They told me they had received several complaints about people using it in the shower, letting it drop and the glass breaking (obviously a Health & Safety concern for them along with a customer satisfaction one). So, they went to great efforts to source the best plastic possible which ensures the product maintains all of its beneficial properties without the risk of glass breakage. Hope that helps!
